Searchlight Pictures’ “Is This Thing On?” Theatrical Release Date Announced

This holiday season, Disney will be releasing a brand new film from Searchlight Pictures called “Is This Thing On?”, which is inspired by the life of the British comedian John Bishop.

The movie follows the breakup of a married couple who are raising two kids. The husband, Alex, takes a wild career pivot to become a professional stand-up comedian in New York City’s West Village. In a newly revealed first-look image, Arnett’s character is standing wistfully in a comedy club.

“Is This Thing On?” will star Will Arnett, Laura Dern, Cooper, Andra Day, Sean Hayes, Amy Sedaris and Ciarán Hinds.

It’s been directed by Bradley Cooper and co-written by Will Arnett and Mark Chappell. The movie’s producers also include Cooper, Arnett, Weston Middleton and Kris Thykier.

The new movie will premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 10th 2025, and will then be released in cinemas on December 19th 2025. This will mean we will see it released on Hulu and Disney+ internationally in 2026.
