Disney has announced that the upcoming Searchlight Pictures film, “Flamin’ Hot” is going to be debuting on both Hulu and Disney+ in the United States on June 9th 2023. The film was also be released on Disney+ internationally.

This film is based on the true story of Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia), a Frito-Lay janitor who disrupted the food industry by channelling his Mexican-American heritage to turn Flamin’ Hot Cheetos from a snack into an iconic global pop culture phenomenon.

This marks the first time a film has debuted at the same time on both platforms. Though the two platforms have previously shared some other originals like the third season of “Love, Victor” and the upcoming documentary “Secrets Of The Elephants”. And a number of other titles have been shared between platforms after an initial release.

As Disney continues to deal with the cost-cutting measures needed to make its streaming division profitable, we are likely to see more sharing of content between the streaming services and linear networks. Plus, this release will also continue to blur the lines between Disney+ and Hulu.

In a statement to Deadline, the film’s director Eva Longoria said:

“I’m so excited for the world to see Flamin’ Hot on these two streaming platforms making this universal, inspirational story accessible to an even wider audience. Now everyone can celebrate the joy, power and heart of this film that also happens to uplift Latinos both in front of and behind the camera.”

Added Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield added:

“Eva’s inspiring film is a joy to experience and we could not be happier that it will now be available to even more families and audiences around the world.”

Producer DeVon Franklin also said in a statement:

“From the moment I found Richard Montanez’ story seven years ago, I knew it would resonate with and inspire audiences everywhere. I’m so grateful to Searchlight, Hulu, and now Disney+ for giving us this historic opportunity to bring his uplifting true story to over 200 million subscribers around the world!”

“Flamin’ Hot’ recently premiered at the SXSW film festival.
