For Marvel fans looking for the original 20th Century Studios Marvel film “X-Men” on Disney+ in the United States, unfortunately, the film has been removed.  This is due to pre-existing contracts made before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox.

This film was originally released in 2000 and is about a group of mutants with extraordinary powers, wage a fight against both intolerance, and a fellow band of radical mutants intent on exterminating the human race.   When Magneto kidnaps Marie, a young mutant, with the intention of using her powers to destroy humanity, the X-Men and Wolverine team up to save her and stop Magneto.

Expect this removal to be temporary, as eventually, once the pre-existing contracts that were made before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox have expired, titles that are removed, will return to Disney and hopefully stay there.   “X-Men” was added to Disney+ last summer and lasted about a year before it’s removal today.

It’s not yet clear which streaming service the film has been moved to, however “X-Men” is still available on Disney+ internationally.

While Disney doesn’t remove too many titles each month, unfortunately, Disney+ doesn’t advertise these removals in advance like other streaming services like Netflix or Hulu.

What do you think of “X-Men” being removed from Disney+?

I'm a little upset with Disney about removing X-Men and The Wolverine Movies. Because me and my family were going to watch X-men in order of the timeline. Since X-men first class wasn't on there we started with X-men Origins Wolverine and right after we finished it couple days later X-men from 2000 was removed. And we got a little upset about it. So I guess we'll just have to watch X2 X-men United, and X-men The last stand, and skip The Wolverine since that's been removed too and go to X-men days of future past, And X-men apocalypse. And I was wondering since Disney has the rights for Fox and there movies I was wondering if they'll put the daredevil movie on there, and Elektra And Maybe make a deal with Universal Studios. And get the rights for Hulk, and to put em on Disney + and make more Hulk movies, For the Mcu. Movies I would like to see on Disney + For Marvel legacy. Man-Thing 2005, Daredevil 2003, Elektra 2005, The Wolverine 2013, Howard the Duck 1986, Spider-man 2002, Spider-man 2 2004, Spider-man 3 2007, Ghost Rider 2007, Ghost rider 2 2012. And X-men 1 2000, and The new mutants 2020

There’s some brilliance in the designs of D+’s MCU presentations. There’s significant opportunities for improvement in content availability. Not having complete collections of all franchise installments, obviously, is one such area of opportunity. In addition to their current presentation formats, deconstructing film segments of owned content to provide a chronological “Comic” of a specific hero’s timeline (or alternative timelines as the case may be) would create an alluring concept with a comic-esque nostalgia... but this is pointless without the content in its entirety. Tl;dr Existing contractual obligations inhibiting content availability are unfortunate, but understandable. It would be less tolerable we’re new obligations to be created that did the same.
