WWE Shows Including RAW & NXT To Leave Hulu
Last week, a five-year contract between FOX and the WWE for the hit series “Smackdown” expired, and next week, the show will be airing on the USA Network.
With FOX’s contract ending, it has resulted in “Smackdown” being removed from Hulu and Hulu On Disney+. New episodes of “Smackdown” will now be heading to Peacock.
However, the other WWE shows, such as “RAW” and “NXT,” along with “Total Divas”, “Miz & Mrs”, “Superstars”, “Level-Up”, “Main Event”, “205 Live” and “Total Bellas” are also set to leave Hulu on September 25th, 2024, as this long-running contract also expires.
Hulu’s online support team took to X to reply to subscribers’ questions about the future of WWE content on the platform, confirming the removal:
Hi there — sorry for any upset! Beginning September 25th, WWE programming will no longer be available on Hulu. Rest assured, we’ll share your feedback. Thanks!
Over the past couple of years, WWE has extended its contract with Hulu to keep its content on the streaming platform, but this has been because the WWE has been trying to line up all of its licensing deals, so they expire around the same time.
The new five-year deals coming into effect include “Smackdown” moving to USA Network this week, “NXT” moving to The CW in October and “RAW” moving to Netflix in January. Internationally, the entire WWE Network is moving to Netflix in January.
Some WWE content, such as the Hulu Original “Love & WWE,” will still be available on Hulu, and some A+E documentaries will still be available on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ since those come under different licensing deals.
Roger’s Take: For WWE fans, the loss of these shows on Hulu is going to be disappointing, but the writing has been on the wall for years, especially when shows like RAW and NXT weren’t made available via Hulu On Disney+, indicating that no new deal was likely.
