Disney’s newest live action movie, Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil has been released in theatres today and if you’re waiting to see this movie at home on Disney+, you might be wondering when it will be available to stream.

Back at Disney’s April Investors Day event, it was officially confirmed that Maleficent: Mistress of Evil would be coming to Disney+, within the first year of launch, however much like previous theatrical releases, it won’t be available for a while.

Major new movies like Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, will continue through their theatrical run, then they will be released on digital and home video formats such as DVD and Blu-Ray, before arriving on Disney+.  It’s expected that new movies will arrive on Disney+ about 6 to 8 months after they’ve been released in cinemas.

Earlier releases from this year such as Dumbo and Captain Marvel, which came out in March, will be available on Disney+ when it launches on November 12th, while Avengers: Endgame, which was released in April, will be available on Disney+ on December 11th.

So it looks likely that Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil will not be available to stream on Disney+ until around the start of summer next year.  However Disney CEO Bob Iger has said:

“The home video window continues to be quite important to us.  You’ll likely see us protect that as well, although there’s going to be discussion around whether there’s an opportunity to move product into that window maybe a little sooner.”

So if you want to see Angelina Jolie return as Maleficent this year, it’ll have to be at the cinema.

Are you going to see Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil at the cinema or wait for it on Disney+?
