One of the most commonly asked questions we’ve had on social media and on our Facebook group this week, has been “When is Spin going to be on Disney+?”.
“Spin” is the latest Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) and follows Rhea, a relatable Indian American teen who discovers her passion for creating DJ mixes that blend the rich textures of her South Asian culture and the world around her. Her life revolves around her eclectic group of friends, Molly, Watson and Ginger; her after-school coding club; her family’s Indian restaurant; and her tight-knit, multigenerational family, which includes her father, Arvind, younger brother Rohan and her grandmother, Asha. Everything changes when she falls for aspiring DJ Max, and her long-lost fervor for music is re-ignited. Rhea discovers that she has a natural gift for creating beats and producing music but must find the courage to follow her true inner talent.
When Is “Spin” Coming To Disney+?
The good news is that all new Disney Channel content eventually is added to Disney+, but the bad news is that, unfortunately, Disney hasn’t yet officially announced when “Spin” will be available on Disney+.
This is because all the Disney Channel Original content that premieres on the channel, is exclusive to the Disney Channel and DisneyNOW app for a limited period in the United States.
So far, since Disney+ launched, there have been several Disney Channel Original Movies released.
To give us an idea, here are when they were released on the Disney Channel and on Disney+ in the United States.
Descendants 3 – (Disney Channel Release Date – August 2nd 2019 – Disney+ Release Date February 2nd 2020)
Zombies 2 – (Disney Channel Release Date – February 14th 2020 – Disney+ Release Date August 14th 2020)
Upside-Down Magic – (Disney Channel Release Date – July 31st 2020 – Disney+ Release Date February 5th 2021)
Each film took 6 months from airing on the Disney Channel until the films were added to Disney+ in the United States.
So based on that previous method, “Spin” wouldn’t be available on Disney+ until early February 2022.
But, it’s very likely it won’t be that long, as recently, Disney has begun changing around its release schedules for Disney Channel content. Rather than waiting until whole seasons had finished airing, they’ve started dropping batches of episodes onto Disney+, and some specials have been added just days later.
Internationally, things are a little more difficult to predict, since the Disney Channel doesn’t exist in many countries anymore, resulting in Disney Channel Original Movies generally being added much quicker.
In the UK, “Upside-Down Magic” was added to Disney+ around 70 days after the US premiere.
In Australia, “Upside-Down Magic” was added to Disney+ around 2 weeks after the US premiere.
As you can see, trying to predict exactly when a new DCOM will arrive on Disney+ isn’t easy, because Disney keeps changing strategies by releasing content onto Disney+ much faster since so many more people are subscribed.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long until Disney announced when “Spin” will be added to Disney+.
Are you looking forward to seeing “Spin” on Disney+?
