It’s Independence Day today across the United States, where Americans celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776.

To mark the occasion, here are some recommendations of what to watch on Disney+ to celebrate:

Hamilton

An unforgettable cinematic stage performance, that is a filmed version of the original Broadway production of “Hamilton” combines the best elements of live theater, film and streaming to bring the cultural phenomenon to homes around the world for a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience. “Hamilton” is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, “Hamilton” has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. If your only going to watch one thing to learn about Independence Day, this is probably the best thing to watch.

National Treasure

Benjamin Franklin Gates seeks a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers during the Revolutionary War. He must find it before his competitor does and also avoid getting arrested by the FBI. This adventure film is one of my favourite films on Disney+ and is a fun way of learning more about American history.

America’s National Parks

This National Geographic docuseries takes viewers inside eight of the most beautiful national parks in the United States. Celebrate America by checking out the breathtaking landscapes and majestic animals that help make our country what it is. Having visited many of the great National Parks across the US, this one really highlights the amazing beauty of America.

Captain America

No one character probably represents the United States of America more than Marvel’s Captain America. During World War II, Steve Rogers decides to volunteer in an experiment that transforms his weak body. He must now battle a secret Nazi organisation headed by The Red Skull to defend his nation. He is then found decades later, frozen in ice and he goes on to lead the Avengers, saving not just the US, it the entire world and universe. With multiple appearances within the MCU, any one of these sounds like a great way to celebrate this weekend.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier

This Disney+ Original series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of “Avengers: Endgame,” team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience, as Sam comes to terms with becoming the next Captain America.

Independence Day

Unfortunately, probably one of the most well known movies called “Independence Day” isn’t available on Disney+ in the United States, but it is available internationally. The film sees Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum taking on an alien race who destroy all of the major cities of the world with their advanced weaponry. So it’s down to a geek, a pilot, the US President and a group of ragtag survivors unite to save mankind from annihilation.
