A pair of hosts introduce kids to facts that seem odd but are completely true in this weekly comedy series called “Weird But True.” This week’s topic is dinosaurs. The hosts head to a dinosaur park and museum in Utah to learn more about different types of dinosaurs, their bones and fossils. This series aired on National Geographic Kids for the first two seasons before moving to Disney+ for its third season which premiered this week.

This is a weird show, it’s true. It’s clearly meant for kids and I can see how it would hold their attention, but as an adult, it didn’t do anything for me. The weird, but true facts taught on the show are very educational and it’s something kids should definitely check out. It’s goofy, it’s silly, it’s perfect for younger people.

The subject matter is excellent for this episode. I’m a big fan of dinosaurs, so it’s great learning about them. The best part is when they go to the museum in Utah and we see how paleontologists are digging for fossils and bones. We also get to see a great deal of the fossils that have already been discovered. I’ve never considered a trip to Utah before, but this episode actually made me want to take my kids out there to see the sights and learn more about dinosaurs. I live in Connecticut where there are dinosaur parks to learn more about the reptiles, but all of them in the state are far smaller than the one we learn about in Utah.

This is not a series that I would recommend for an adult who likes documentaries or educational television. Much like the DisneyNature documentaries, this series is clearly targeted at kids. It knows its demographic and it serves it well. I would gladly let my son watch this series to learn more about the topics being discussed. But, I’m not in a rush to sit down and watch it myself. I didn’t mind this episode because I love dinosaurs, but I don’t know that I would want to sit through this type of show for a topic that I don’t love or am not sure if I would love. I would rather watch the documentaries on National Geographic proper rather than try to learn more about topics through shows like this. But, if I were a kid, I would love it.
