If you’ve had time to use your search function on Disney+, you’ll notice some categories already established to make searching easier. Given Disney’s reputation, we all knew princesses had to be one of the categories available to search. It’s further divided into subcategories. Right now, we’re going to take a look at the Top 15 movies in the features category.

15. Aladdin (animated)

Jasmine is one of the few featured princesses who isn’t the star of her own movie. “Aladdin” is an all-time great film of the Disney Renaissance, and Jasmine plays a major role despite not being the star.

14. Sleeping Beauty

The iconic film from the 1950s is a wonderful watch. But, loses points because the princess does very little in the film with much of the focus being on the villain, Maleficent.

13. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The very first feature-length animated film in history, it definitely deserves a watch. It’s the most important animated film of all time. But, much like “Sleeping Beauty,” the princess does very little.

12. Aladdin (live-action)

One of the better live-action remakes available on Disney+, Jasmine has more to do in this film. In the end, I can’t rank it higher because it’s not about her.

11. Tangled

Disney’s retelling of the classic story of Rapunzel takes an interesting direction as only Disney can. It’s worth a watch just for Rapunzel’s use of a frying pan as a weapon.

10. Frozen 2

The sequel to the smash hit “Frozen” is a solid sequel. It’s a little disappointing compared to its predecessor, but it’s a fun way to spend two hours.

9. Pocahontas

For my money, this film has the best soundtrack ever of any Disney animated movie, not just a princess movie. While the true story of Pocahontas is not some fairytale that needs to be shown to children, this version took incredible liberties that prevent me from ranking it higher. But, for a child not thinking about historical accuracy, it’s a fun watch.

8. Mulan

Another film based on a real person that takes liberty with fact. It’s still a fun, enjoyable movie. The Mulan character is my pick for the best among the Disney Princess line despite the fact she the only one that doesn’t become a princess at some point in the film.

7. Brave

Pixar’s only take on the princess genre, Brave is a wonderful modern look at an old Scottish princess. Merida is the most real looking of any of the animated princesses. It’s a solid film that feels like it comes from the Disney studios rather than Pixar.

6. Frozen

Disney’s smash hit couldn’t be escaped when it hit theaters (and the ensuing months.) It’s a genuinely good movie that teaches about the importance of sisterly love. Warning: “Let It Go” will get stuck in your head again if you watch this. I’m sorry.

5. Moana

Disney took the princess away from the castle and put her on the ocean. This film features a great vocal performance from The Rock and made me, personally, more interested in Hawaiian culture. Also, it’s my controversial opinion that the music of “Moana” is better than the music in “Frozen.”

4. The Princess and the Frog

The film that kicked off the Disney Revival, “The Princess and the Frog” gives a unique look at the struggles in 1920s New Orleans. It’s the first film to feature an African American princess which is a huge step forward in inclusion and representation.

3. Cinderella

Of the pre-Renaissance days, I believe this is the ultimate princess movie. She wasn’t born a princess, but with a little help from her fairy godmother, she’s able to charm the prince. I think she was the iconic princess for at least one generation.

2. The Little Mermaid

The film that kicked off the Disney Renaissance and a tried and true formula for box office success. After a string of films that didn’t quite set the world on fire, this film showed how a princess movie could be done and done right in a way that still appeals today.

1. Beauty and the Beast

This is my favorite princess movie. The music is wonderful. The story is simple yet captivating. In a film with a beast that literally imprisons the heroine, the true villain is shown to be this man oozing machismo who could be the poster boy for toxic masculinity. I always have a smile when I finish this movie. It’s fun start to finish.

That’s my rankings. What do you think? What’s your favorite princess movie?
