Each month, we take a look at what are the most popular movie globally on Disney+, which is tracked daily on the trending list and takes into consideration how popular a show is and how long it has been popular on Disney+.
Many of the biggest Disney franchises continue to pull in an audience, especially as younger viewers tend to watch their favourite films over and over.
It’s also worth noting that some films aren’t available in all countries, especially as many countries have Star, which offers more mature films.
Here are the most popular films around the world on Disney+ in September 2021:
Estella is a young and clever grifter who’s determined to make a name for herself in the fashion world. She soon meets a pair of thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they build a life for themselves on the streets of London. However, when Estella befriends fashion legend Baroness von Hellman, she embraces her wicked side to become the raucous and revenge-bent Cruella. This movie became available to all Disney+ subscribers at the end of August and with it being the newest film available on the streaming service, was the most-watched film for the majority of the month.
Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.
Easily one of my favourite modern animated movies and sees Moana answer the call of the ocean, taking to the seas to save her people from a terrible curse. The movie features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the Demigod Maui and his character really adds some great comedy moments. Moana delivers an awesome soundtrack including “Your Welcome” and “How Far I’ll Go”. This movie rarely has left the top of the trending charts, showing how popular this film is with kids who must be watching this one on repeat a fair few times a week!
4) Black Widow – Premier Access
Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Considering this film is available on Disney+ Premier Access, it shows how many people watched it during September and with the film set to become available to everyone in October, expect a huge bump next month.
5) Avengers: Endgame
After Thanos, an intergalactic warlord, disintegrates half of the universe, the Avengers must reunite and assemble again to reinvigorate their trounced allies and restore balance.
6) Raya And The Last Dragon
Raya, a warrior, sets out to track down Sisu, a dragon, who transferred all her powers into a magical gem that is now scattered all over the kingdom of Kumandra, dividing its people. This film had previously been available on Disney+ Premier Access, but was made available to all subscribers in early June, which is why it has scored higher in the chart, since the longer films are in the trending list, the higher they appear in this chart.
This new Pixar Sparkshort, follows a grandmother who is caught between her two favorite things when her granddaughter is unexpectedly dropped off during the day she was planning to spend watching her favorite TV show.
8) The New Mutants
Five teenage mutants — Mirage, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot and Magik — undergo treatments at a secret institution that will cure them of their dangerous powers. Invited by Dr. Cecilia Reyes to share their stories, their memories soon turn into terrifying realities as they start to question why they’re being held and who’s trying to destroy them.
9) Frozen 2
Elsa the Snow Queen has an extraordinary gift — the power to create ice and snow. But no matter how happy she is to be surrounded by the people of Arendelle, Elsa finds herself strangely unsettled. After hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, Elsa travels to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond her kingdom — an adventure that soon turns into a journey of self-discovery. Another juggernaut animated film that continues to pull in viewers every day, regardless of parents wishing they’d let it go!
Miguel pursues his love for singing in spite of his family’s ban on music. He stumbles into the Land of the Dead, where he learns about his great-great-grandfather who was a legendary singer.
