Disney has had some huge success with its live-action versions of their animated classics, and Pinocchio is the next in line to be brought to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Disney is in early negotiations with Tom Hanks to play Geppetto.  These negotiations are still in the early stages and that after reading the script, Tom Hanks reached out to Robert Zemeckis, who will be writing and directing the film, to inform him that he wants to play the part.

The pair have worked together on other projects in the past, including Forrest Gump, Castaway and The Polar Express.  While Tom Hank has worked with Disney on multiple projects including Toy Story and Saving Mr Banks.  Pinocchio is being produced by Andrew Miano and Chris Weitz.

The original Pinocchio animated movie is available to view on Disney+ now and tells the story of Pinocchio, a marionette, must earn the right to become a real boy by proving to be truthful, brave and selfless. He is assisted by Jimmy Cricket, his assigned conscience.
