Togo is the latest Disney+ Original movie from the Walt Disney Studios and is the untold true story set in the winter of 1925 that takes viewers across the treacherous terrain of the Alaskan tundra for an exhilarating and uplifting adventure that will test the strength, courage and determination of one man, Leonhard Seppala, and his lead sled dog, Togo.

For dog lovers, this movie is going to be pulling on your heartstrings throughout, the flashbacks to Togo as a puppy and the mischief he gets up to, then to the heart warming moments with his master.  On multiple occasions during the film, both my wife and I were wiping the tears from our eyes, along with many occasions laughing at the actions of Togo as a pup and cheering them on in some fantastic action scenes.

The setting of this movie is just breathtaking and is part of the movie, the snow capped mountains and ice fields aren’t just there just to look pretty, its part of the story.  It makes everything seem realistic and that’s a key thing about the story, its based on true events and I hadn’t really known much about this story going into it.  So I wasn’t going into it with the knowledge of Balto and so it was a completely new story to me.

This is the third Disney+ movie to come to the new streaming service, but its the first time I’ve got to the end and thought, that should have been released at the cinema.  This shouldn’t be looked down upon as a “streaming” movie, its beautifully shot, the action scenes look amazing and thought William Dafoe did a fantastic job in the role.  But I can also see how Togo just wouldn’t catch the attention of cinema goers in the same way that the big epic franchises do.

One of the best things about this movie is the dogs, which might sound odd, but this movie uses real dogs, unlike the recent “Lady and the Tramp” or the upcoming “Call of the Wild”, CGI dogs just don’t have that same look and feel.  You get to feel the love between the two, especially when Togo is having a full on lick of William’s face, but that’s the charm of it.

If you’re after something new on Disney+ with a bit more bite (pun intended), then this movie should go into your watch list as Togo is heartwarming adventure movie and everyone with a Disney+ subscription should check it out over the holiday period.  This is what Disney+ was made for, excellent movies that the whole family can sit around in the comfort of their own homes and enjoy.  It’s a must watch for Disney+ subscribers.
