The first season of the National Geographic live-action series,  “The Right Stuff” is due to end this coming Friday on Disney+ and according to a report from Deadline, the show has been renewed for a second season as Disney has been given $13.7 million to move production from Florida to California.

The move to California, will make the NASA series that has been executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio the fourth-highest awarded relocating show ever under the CFC program, which also includes Lucifer, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and Hunters.

Disney hasn’t officially announced “The Right Stuff” will be returning for a second season, but last year in a press release it was revealed:

Subsequent seasons of THE RIGHT STUFF will carry through to the epochal Apollo Space Program, where humankind saw one of its greatest achievements — man setting foot on the moon — and missions beyond.

While more seasons are planned, the big issue will be if enough people watched the show on Disney+ or signed up to watch it.   Disney may have been waiting to see if they were awarded these tax incentives before announcing the show would be returning.  If Disney doesn’t go ahead with another season of “The Right Stuff”, this money would be cycled into the next upcoming allocation period.

According to Deadline, moving production of “The Right Stuff” to California, would generate the states $51.8 million in below-the-line wages, vendors and more.  “The Right Stuff” Season 2 is aiming to hire 2,204 background players, 173 cast members and a crew of 214.
