Disney has announced that the Searchlight Pictures horror film “The Night House” is coming to Disney+ in Spain just in time for Halloween on Wednesday 27th October 2021.
Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth (Rebecca Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. Before long, disturbing visions of a presence in the house begin to beckon her with a ghostly allure. Yearning for answers, she begins digging into her husband’s belongings, only to discover strange and disturbing secrets.
While the film was originally released in cinemas in some countries like the US and UK on Friday 20th August, it was released a month later in Spain, so the theatrical window has only been 40 days.
This is the first country to announce a Disney+ release date for this film, which was the next theatrical release after “Free Guy”. Since “Free Guy” was released in most countries with Star on the same day, this could be a good indication of when the film will be released on Disney+ in other countries. However, it’s worth pointing out “Summer Of Soul” and “Nomadland” weren’t released all in every country with Star on the same date, but were within a few weeks of each other. But releasing a new horror just days before Halloween would also be a huge boost for new content on Disney+. Also, it would be logical for Disney+ releases of major theatrical films to be on the same day.
Since the film is rated R, it wouldn’t be released on Disney+ in the United States and due to the existing contract with HBO, it will take a while before it can go to Hulu. The film has just been released on premium video on demand to rent and purchase.
