“The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild” is the latest original animated film heading to Disney+ and is the sixth film in the Ice Age franchise.

This new film’s main plot is that the thrill-seeking possum brothers Crash and Eddie are eager for some independence, so they set out to find a place of their own, but quickly find themselves trapped beneath the ice in a massive cave that is inhabited by dinosaurs, which we saw introduced in the third Ice Age film.

The possums are then rescued by the one-eyed, adventure-loving weasel Buck Wild, who enlists their help, along with some other new friends, including a female skunk, to save the Lost World from a Dinosaur who wants to wipe out all of the mammals.

At some point during the film, we slide into superhero team plot territory as the main dinosaur villain, has a massive brain, making him much more intelligent than the other dinosaurs. Hence, he is able to train the smaller dinos to do his bidding. It’s all very generic, and there isn’t anything original that will keep older viewers entertained.

I found it rather strange that most of the dinosaurs in the film are all around the same size as the mammals, which, considering they are a group consisting of a skunk, weasel and two possums, just seems odd in terms of size. The giant mother T-Rex from the original “Dawn Of The Dinosaurs” does make a few appearances, but it was just one of the many things that annoyed me about this film.

One of the most annoying things about this film is the animation. It’s all over the place. Since one minute, I was thinking, look at the hair on the Mammoths, that looks pretty good, then the next minute, the animation looks more much more lower budget, like you’d see in an animated series on a Saturday morning. One thing to note, is the previous Ice Age films were created by Blue Sky Studios, but for this film, the animation was done by Bardel Entertainment.

Another disappointment with this film, is that only Simon Pegg returned from the original cast to provide the voice of Buck Wild. None of the original actors involved in the previous films returned, such as Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, or Queen Latifah. Not having these actors back doing the voice work instantly distracted me from the film, since they just didn’t sound the same.

Honestly, this film is fine for younger viewers, who will enjoy the simple storyline and won’t notice the issues this film has. But older fans of the Ice Age films will undoubtedly find this film to be a disappointment. It just doesn’t have the charm of the original films.

Overall: “The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild” is a rather disappointing animated film. This would have been a classic example of a “Straight to VHS” animated sequel if this had been released before streaming services existed. There is no doubt that the budget for this latest instalment in the Ice Age franchise was much lower, which resulted in a lower quality film.

It will be coming to Disney+ in some other countries, including the UK, Australia and across Europe, on March 25th 2022.
