During’s December’s Investor Day event, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced a brand new Disney+ series called “The Acolyte”, which will be created by Leslye Headland, who is the Emmy Award-nominated creator of the mind-bending series “Russian Doll.”
The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.
Currently, the High Republic era is being established by Disney through a range of novels and comic books. Recently the author of the comic book series, Cavan Scott, spoke with the ComicBook Nation podcast and was asked if the new Disney+ series “The Acolyte” changed their plans.
“No, because I think we predated that ’cause we’ve been working on this for a good number of years now. So what happened was people were getting excited about the High Republic as we were creating it, which was great to see, and there have been all these other plans as well but the great thing that Star Wars is so good at is taking the ‘Things been worked on over here. This thing’s been worked over on here, so let’s bring it together.’ And I mean the High Republic as an era goes on for an awful long time, because, you know, it’s that period of time before the fall of the Jedi. And so, it’s been really exciting to sort of see other threads of Star Wars coming in as they’ve been developed as well and, and see us all working together to to get to that for those final points. But yeah, it’s going be exciting isn’t it?”
With the High Republic covering a 200-year era, it does look like the upcoming Disney+ series won’t connect to the extended universe being created in the comic books and novels.
“The Acolyte” will be the first time a live-action series or film hasn’t taken place within the “Skywalker” era, and I’m sure it won’t be the first.
No release date has yet been revealed for “The Acolyte”.
