During the 2019 San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios officially revealed that the vampire-hunter “Blade” would be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new film.

It was announced during that event that Mahershala Ali would be playing the title role for the film.  He has previously starred in Netflix’s “Luge Cage” series and Hulu’s “Ramy”.   He also won two Oscar’s for his supporting role in Green Book and Moonlight.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Stacy Osei-Kuffour has signed on to write the script for this reboot.  She will be the first Black woman to write a Marvel film.    She has previously written HBO’s “Watchmen”, Amazon’s “Hunters”, and the Hulu’s “Pen15”.

Marvel has spent over six months looking for the right person to write the film, as they were only seriously considering Black writers to focus on diversity and making representation a key factor.

“Blade” was born as a human-vampire hybrid and has spent his long life seeking to rid the world of vampires like the one that killed his mother. Over the years, he has mastered his own style of fighting monsters of all kinds.

“Blade” has prevously been featured in three movies starring Wesley Snipes and there was also a TV series spin-off released in 2006.

No release date for the upcoming Marvel “Blade” movie has yet been announced.
