Disney+ is set to launch in the UK on March 24th and one of the biggest satellite providers, Sky (owned by Comcast), has been in talks with Disney throughout the weekend, to bring the Disney+ app to Sky Q boxes.

According to the Daily Telegraph, this is set to be a multi-year deal, which would help keep Sky’s rivals, Virgin Media and BT locked out.  The deal would be similar to the one Sky has with Netflix.  The Sky Q box has a Netflix app built into the set top box, allowing consumers easier access to Netflix.  And is part of Sky’s plan to offer a wide range of streaming services through its box, to keep its subscribers from “cord cutting”.

Having the Disney+ app available on Sky Q boxes, will increase the number of devices Disney+ is available on in the UK and increase subscription numbers by millions, while also giving Sky revenue from any subscriptions sold via them.

This isn’t a huge surprise as last year, we reported that Luke Bradley-Jones had become the senior vice president, Direct-to-Consumer and General Manager, Disney+ Europe & Africa.  And his previous job was working at Sky and helped launch Sky Q.

Would you use Disney+ on your Sky Q box?
