Next week, Disney is releasing the first episode of the first ever Marvel Studios animated series “What If?”. This new series flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways and focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles.
When “What If?” was originally announced, it was confirmed to consist of 10 episodes, but during a recent press event, the shows executive producer Brad Winderbaum confirmed that one of the episodes from the first season wasn’t ready and will be moved into the second season, which will also consist of 9 episodes. Confirming work is already underway on a second season.
We only were greenlit for 10. Um, and, uh, and we are fortunate enough to be exploring some of those ideas in our second season. Um, but the world’s changed, um, and the-and the fictional Marvel universe has changed. So, new ideas also bubble forth, too, and new stories and new opportunities to tell-to tell new stories come about.
Not only will there be a second season, but one of those episodes in the second season will also include another episode featuring Captain Carter, a variant of Agent Carter, who was injected with the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. Brad explained to us:
We realized, as we started developing the second season, that Captain Carter was gonna be the character we would revisit in every season, and continue that adventure.
The “What If?” series is one that has a never ending amount of potential storylines and offers Marvel a way of telling stories of well known characters, who we wouldn’t necessarily see in the films or TV shows.
Episode one of Marvel Studios’ “What If?” is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday 11th August and new episodes are being released every week.
