Disney is once again taking inspiration from its theme part attractions to create new films, as according to Collider, the “Tower Of Terror” is going to be turned into a movie.
Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson is going to be starring and producing the film.
This new film will be written by Academy Award-winner Josh Cooley, who previously worked on “Toy Story 4″. No plot details on the film have yet been announced, or if it will be a theatrical or Disney+ Original film.
The “Tower Of Terror” can be found in Disney theme parks around the world and takes guests inside the infamous Hollywood Tower Hotel and find a dusty lobby frozen in time. Even the subdued hotel staff seems strangely out of another era, as on a gloomy Halloween night in 1939, some hotel patrons were riding the elevator when a violent storm struck the building… and they were never seen again. The hotel closed down and has stood empty ever since. Guests enter the rickety, elevator-style lift, strap themselves in and then shriek in terror as they’re suddenly propelled up and down the abandoned shaft—unexpectedly dropping and rising—while they hear the sound of cables snapping and metal clanging overhead.
Many Disney theme park attractions have already been turned into films. Some have been much more successful than others, with “Pirates Of The Caribbean” being the biggest hit and “Jungle Cruise” set to be released in July. Disney has already released a film based on the “Tower Of Terror” in 1997, and it starred Steven Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst.
