Disney has announced that the upcoming 20th Century Studios film, “Rosaline” is going to be released exclusively on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ around the world in 2022.

The film is based on the novel “When You Were Mine” by Rebecca Serle, which retells the classic “Romeo and Juliet”, story through the eyes of Juliet’s cousin Rosaline, who is going to be played by Kaitlyn Dever.

Rosaline is a sharp but idealistic young woman—who happens to be Romeo’s recent ex. What begins as an attempt to foil the famous romance and win back her guy becomes a journey of self-discovery as she ultimately works to help get the star-crossed lovers back together.

Karen Maine will be directing the film, with 21 Laps’s Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen producing the film. The novel has been adapted into a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who previously worked on the 20th Century Studios films “The Fault In Our Stars” and “500 Days of Summer”.
No exact release date for Disney+ and Hulu has yet been announced.
