For fans of the Blue Sky Studios animated film “Rio” , unfortunately, the film has now been removed from Disney+ in the United States.  The film is still available to watch in other countries.

At the beginning of every month, Disney is forced to remove a limited number of films from its streaming service because of previous contracts made before Disney+ was created.  Unlike many other streaming platforms like Netflix, these removals aren’t advertised in advance.

Captured by smugglers when he was just a hatchling, a macaw named Blu never learned to fly and lives a happily domesticated life in Minnesota with his human friend, Linda. Blu is thought to be the last of his kind, but when word comes that Jewel, a lone female, lives in Rio de Janeiro, Blu and Linda go to meet her. Animal smugglers kidnap Blu and Jewel, but the pair soon escape and begin a perilous adventure back to freedom — and Linda.

“Rio” will return to Disney+ in the US, once the existing contract has expired, but unfortunately, we don’t yet know when that will be.

What do you think of Disney removing “Rio” from Disney+?

This is incredibly unfortunate. My little girl loves Rio. I wish I had some warning it would be removed.

    It's on Hulu, that's why it's removed from Disney+

It varies from movie to movie. They removed "Rookie of the Year" from Hulu and put it on Disney+ while "The Princess Bride" is on both.

Every night my 2 yr old daughter has been going to sleep with rio playing in the background. She loves her birds movie as she calls it. I have Disney plus so I don't have to spend a fortune on DVDs so my kids can watch their favorites over and over again. We are not happy about the removal of rio or the fact that the second one isn't available either. She is now currently crying herself to sleep because no other movie seems to male her as happy as rio for bed time..not even her other go to Nemo movie.
