Following the news that Aubrey Plaza is set to star in the upcoming 20th Television series “Olga Dies Dreaming”, more casting news has now been revealed that Ramón Rodríguez will be playing the male lead opposite Aubrey.
“Olga Dies Dreaming,” tells the story of a Nuyorican brother(Rodríguez) and sister (Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park, Brooklyn, reckoning with the absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Ramón Rodríguez is set to play Prieto, who is Olga’s brother and is a popular Congressman who is described as wearing his Puerto Rican pride like a badge of honor. He grew up playing a part: the cheerful, overachieving, involuntary patriarch of a broken home. He’s lonely and tired, but he wakes up every morning wholly prepared to be the fixer, continuing to present this facade to his constituents and his opponents alike.
He has previously starred in a number of series, including “The Wire”, and the two Marvel Netflix shows, “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders”, along with Disney’s “The One and Only Ivan”.
The new series is based on the novel by Xochitl Gonzalez. It will be directed by Sundance-winning filmmaker Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who has previously directed the Searchlight Pictures film, “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”.
Should the series be given the green light, the series will be available on Hulu in the US, and with 20th Television creating it, it’s likely to be released as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.
