Last week, Pixar released a brand new limited series, “Dream Productions”, on Disney+, which takes place in between the events of “Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2”.

This all-new series is about the studio inside Riley’s mind where dreams really do come true—every night, on time and on budget. Riley is growing up, and when her memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams.

Disney has revealed that the show has gotten off to a great start on Disney+, as the first episode drove 5.6 million views globally in the first five days of viewing.  Making “Dream Productions” the biggest animated series premiere on Disney+ since “What If…?” debuted in 2021.

Disney defines “views” as total stream time divided by runtime.   By comparison, the biggest recent animated release was “X-Men ’97”, which pulled in 4 million views in the first five days.

The series has been written and directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon.

All four episodes of “Dream Productions” are now available to stream on Disney+.

Roger’s Take:  This is a strong debut for “Dream Productions” on Disney+, and no doubt the series will continue to pull in viewers over the coming months ahead.  It’ll be interesting to see if Pixar’s next series, “Win Or Lose” will be as popular or if Disney is right in refocusing Pixar’s attention on theatrical releases following the massive success of “Inside Out 2” becoming the biggest movie of 2024.
