Ever since Olivia Rodrigo broke out following the release of her single, “Driving License”, which blew up on TikTok and turned her into the biggest star of the year.

There has been speculation that she wouldn’t be returning for a third season of the Disney+ Original series, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”.  Especially with Olivia Rodrigo, also set to kick off her first tour in 2022, so she has a hectic schedule.

Plus, the ending of the second season of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” also teased that she wouldn’t be returning, and it was very noticeable that her role in the second season was much smaller than in the first season.

This month, Olivia Rodrigo was awarded the Time Magazine’s 2021 Entertainer of the Year award, and in an interview with Time, it was confirmed that she is returning for the upcoming third season and revealed that filming is due to start filming in January.

During last months Disney+ Day event, it was revealed that “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” would have a “Frozen” theme.

Some awkward moments might be ahead, as recently co-star Joshua Bassett revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Rodrigo in over a year.  Though his previous relationship with Sabrina Carpenter is apparently the inspiration behind Olivia’s “Driving License” song, so it’s understandable the former couple might not be keeping in touch.

With Olivia Rodrigo returning for a third season, this will no doubt continue to make the show even more popular, as her fans check out the Disney Channel series.

No Disney+ release date for the third season has yet been announced.

In the first season, we see a group of East High students countdown to the opening night of their school’s first-ever production of “High School Musical.” Showmances blossom; friendships are tested while new ones are made; rivalries flare, and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only a high school drama club can provide.

In season two of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” the East High Wildcats, who are preparing to perform “Beauty and the Beast” as their spring musical, face off against rival school North High to win a prestigious and cutthroat student theatre competition. Wigs are snatched, loyalties are tested, and ballads are belted.

The first two seasons of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” are available on Disney+ now.
