During a special virtual press event for the upcoming launch of the new general entertainment brand “Star” on Disney+ in UK and Ireland,  Disney’s Luke Bradley-Jones, who is the senior VP of direct-to-consumer and general manager for Disney+ in Europe, Middle East and Africa, spoke about the importance of the new parental controls that will be available with Disney+ when “Star” launches on February 23rd.

Currently, Disney+ doesn’t contain any content rated above for anyone aged over 14. Still, the addition of content from 20th Century Studios, ABC, Searchlight Pictures and FX will result in much more mature content like “Deadpool 2”, “Die Hard”, “Aliens” and “Family Guy” available.

Luke Bradley-Jones confirmed that once “Star” launches, the first time you log in to Disney+, there will be a popup message asking for confirmation to get full access to the Star catalogue, which sets the main profile to have an age rating of 18+.  If a user doesn’t accept the option to add mature content, Disney+ profiles will automatically restrict access to content to shows and movies rated 14 and under.

Until now, many Disney+ subscribers might not have profiles set up for every family member or possibly just have one account for everyone.   With the launch of “Star”, it’s going to be much more important to set appropriate access.

There will also be a new promotional campaign to make Disney+ subscribers aware of the new parental controls with a new video featuring Stewie from “Family Guy”.

Profiles can now be set to have an age rating by the main profile, which can then be protected with a pin code, to stop younger members from getting access to mature content.    It’s also important to remember that children are very observant, so you might want to pick a new code or change it randomly, just encase they work out your code.

Once “Star” launches on Disney+ on the Tuesday 23rd February, if you want to configure these new parental controls, you’ll find it within the profile settings within Disney+. So you can change access as required, such as when a child becomes old enough to move into the next bracket or to set access for everyone in the family once “Star” launches.
