With Christmas almost upon us, when we sit down and watch movies with our friends and family.  Disney have a massive back catalog of movies and many of them aren’t based on Christmas, but have become part of my Christmas traditions.  So I wanted to take a look at some of the big Disney family films that should be on Disney+ when it launches next year.

1) Mary Poppins

While Disney is promoting its new movie, Mary Poppins Returns, this holiday season, for me, the original is one of those movies that I watch year in and year out.  It’s always on TV at this time of the year and is perfect to just pop on, sing along and just be taken away into the amazing adventure.  It’s a classic and it gives me that warm fuzzy homely feeling that very few movies do.

2)  Star Wars: A New Hope

While many of you might question this choice, the original Star Wars movie is one of my classic Christmas time movies, since it usually the only time of the year it would be on TV.  And that repetition is what creates traditions, I’ve seen it hundreds of times but I’m always happy to see it again.  It’s what made me fall in love with the characters back in the 80’s and its what still draws me back into the franchises now.  Though this movie is probably less likely to appear on Disney+ next year due to an existing streaming contract with TNT which doesn’t run out until 2024!

3) Frozen

I’m not going to let this list go without some Frozen love, the songs might be a little overplayed, but I know when this comes on our TV during the holidays, we are all sat there singing along.  I still enjoy watching this movie, though I’m happy to throw the “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” or “Frozen Fever” in as alternatives.  There is just something so appealing about this animated classic, that keeps bringing me back to watch it over and over.

4) Avengers

The original epic crossover movie is still one of the greatest Marvel movies in my opinion, it was the first time we had ever seen superheroes join together on the big screen and with the awesome Loki as the antagonist, this movie has it all.   It might not be on most people’s list of movies for Christmas, but when you’ve got time on your hands and you want to just sit back and enjoy an epic superhero movie, this can’t be beaten.

5) Bedknobs & Broomsticks

This classic Disney movie is up there with Mary Poppins in my opinion, its easily one of my most watched live action Disney movies and I always felt the animated scenes with King Leonidas and the football game is one of my all time favourite Disney scenes.  I love the music and seeing the late Sir Bruce Forsyth in it now always brings a smile to my face.

6) Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom

Much like the Star Wars movies, Indiana Jones is a tent-pole Christmas movie tradition since I was a kid, since its always shown during the holiday period on TV.  And while I’ve picked out “The Temple Of Doom”, all of the movies should be available on Disney+.  They are classic adventure movies that all the family can watch together.

7) The Jungle Book

The classic songs of the Jungle Book are just perfect for chilling out in front of the TV, while we might have the modern remake and even Netflix has “Mowgli” this Christmas, I don’t think you can beat this all time animated classic.  You just have to say the “Jungle Book” and I beat your already humming the “Bear Necessaries”

8) The Incredibles 2

This is the “wildcard” of my list, because this will be the movie I’m going to be watching on Christmas Day this year.  Each Christmas I often will watch some of the newer Disney movies from this past year.  I missed the Incredibles 2 at the cinema due to work commitments, so I haven’t seen it yet, but I know I’m getting it as a present for Christmas.  I could have also thrown Avengers: Infinity War on the list since that’s coming to Netflix on Christmas Day, which is going to be one of the big advantages of Disney+.  Offering new movies that a large amount of people haven’t seen or could be the first time they watch them at home.

9) Robin Hood

Much like the Jungle Book, Robin Hood is one of my all time favourite classic Disney animated movies.   Even now as I’m typing this, I’ve started to whistle the intro music.   Being English, Robin Hood is one of those classic stories you are told as a child and I have seen many different versions of the character, but this one to me is always the best.  One thing I notice now as I’m older, is how much Robin Hood, The Jungle Book and Bedknobs & Broomsticks all have a very similar artistic style.  The animals all look identical and that’s probably what has drawn me in.

10) Three Men & A Little Lady

While I’m sure most people might be thinking “Three Men & a Baby” is the better movie out of the two, I always found this movie to be more interesting.   This is another movie that would always be shown on TV during the Christmas time that has now become one of those “Feel Good” movies to me.   And with Disney+ set to have a new remake of the movie coming soon, this is a good time to catch up on these classics.

Everyone has different Disney movies that grab their attention as children and that’s the benefit of Disney+, they will all be under one platform, so what every it is, hopefully Disney+ will have it on there.
