Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck are junior witches in training to become full-fledged witches in the Mickey Mouse special, “Mickey’s Tale of Two Witches.” But, when Daisy allows her insecurities to get the better of her, she tries to steal Clarabelle’s wand to prove she has what it takes to be a witch. The wand ends up in the hands of ghost Pete, who is trying to prove that he’s more than just a funny ghost as he wants to be seen as spooky. It’s up to Minnie the Wonderful, Daisy Doozy, Count Mickula, and the rest of the gang to stop Pete and return Clarabelle’s wand.

This special originally aired on Disney Junior and it is the perfect special for the Disney Junior audience. It’s cute and fun without being scary. Kids can have fun with it and enjoy the spooky aspect without being frightened by anything too scary. It’s exactly what you would expect from a Mickey Mouse special. I watched it with my youngest son and he spent the whole special laughing at everything that was happening.

I really love the focus on Minnie and Daisy. A lot of the Mickey Mouse specials put the focus on Mickey. It makes sense as he’s the ultimate Disney icon, but it’s nice when the other characters get the focus. I also like that most of the focus was on Daisy and her insecurities. She and Pete are the real stars of this special and it gives it a familiar, yet new feeling. That’s something that’s hard to do since Mickey Mouse debuted nearly 90 years ago. They nailed it here.

If you’re an adult looking for something scarier and spookier, this special isn’t for you. If you’re a parent with a young child looking for Halloween content, it’s perfect. This special knows what it is and doesn’t try to be anything more. That’s a special that’s well done.
