Sony and Disney have worked out a deal to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a little longer.  The new deal sees a new Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland on July 16th, 2021.

The deal also means Spider-Man can also appear in one more Marvel Studios film.  They’ve also confirmed that Amy Pascal will return as a producer.

Kevin Feige said in a statement:

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.  Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

said Feige in a statement, with Amy Pascal adding:

“This is terrific.  Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes.  This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”

Robert Lawson, chief communications officer for Sony Pictures Entertainment said:

“We have had a great collaboration over the last four years, and our mutual desire to continue was equal to that of the many fans. We are delighted to be moving forward together.”

This is certainly good news for Spider-Man fans and will let them finish off the story they have built within the first two movies.  It also extends the deal a few more years and gives them a chance to work out a longer plan for our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Uodate – According to Variety, Disney will now gain 25% of the profits and put in 25% of the costs of the movie.

Are you excited to see Spider-Man stay part of the MCU for a little longer?
