Marvel is once again getting viewers ready for its new movie with the return of the Disney+ Original Series, “Marvel Legends.” Three new episodes dropped this week focusing on Dr. Strange, Wong and Scarlet Witch ahead of the release of “Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.” Viewers get the chance to relive some of the best moments of these three characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before they return to the big screen.

I’m always split on this series because I find them to be a lot of fun, but also think they look like a well put together fan trailer more than a series. When it’s a character that doesn’t get a lot of backstory in the movies, like Wanda Maximoff before WandaVision or Falcon, it’s a great reminder of what they did. But, it still feels odd when it’s someone like Dr. Strange who was the focus of his own movie and had big moments in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The Dr. Strange episode was very odd to me. While we got some great moments from “Dr. Strange,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame;” it was also missing his big moments in “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Spiderman: No Way Home.” The “Spiderman” omission isn’t surprising since it was primarily produced by Sony in conjunction with Marvel. But, the “Thor” omission seems rather odd since that was a very funny moment when he interacted with Thor and Loki. That should’ve been in that episode.

It was also interesting to see how they were going to tackle Scarlett Witch considering the very first “Marvel Legends” episode was Wanda Maximoff. While it showed some of her early events, a lot of the focus came from WandaVision which makes sense as that’s where Wanda makes the transition to the Scarlett Witch. I love that series and I like anything that reminds me of “WandaVision,” but I wasn’t sure how or why she was getting what is essentially a second episode. It was still fun, so we’re fine.

I liked all three of these episodes, but the series still leaves a lot to be desired. They are good, but they feel more like movie featurettes rather than a series. It’s still fun and I’ll check out all the rest.

Not complaining, but I am not sure these need to be reviewed as they offer nothing new just clips from previous productions. To my mind they are simply the ‘previously on the mcu’ Section you would get before a new season starts of a show, but rather than have five-ten minutes of clips before a new show or film is released, they have separated them out into this short series. It allows those who want to only watch WandaVision (for example) to watch the relevant Marvel Legends episode to remind themselves of what they need to know before they start watching the full series.
