Last year at the D23 Expo, actress Hilary Duff announced that she would be returning for a brand new series of “Lizzie McGuire” for Disney+.

The new series was going to see Lizzie McGuire just about to turn 30. She seemingly has it all – her dream job as an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator, her dream guy and a picturesque Brooklyn apartment – but things aren’t always as they seem. With a little help from her friends, her loving family and her 13-year-old alter-ego in animated form, Lizzie navigates the ups and downs of adulthood.

The new show was also going to star original cast members Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas.

Filming began on the new show started in late October 2019, however, the show has suffered from multiple issues including the shows creator, Terri Minsky,  stepping away from her role as the showrunner on the show in January after the first two episodes were filmed in New York.

This led to Hilary Duff publically calling out Disney, asking them to move it to Hulu because “I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.”

Filming was put on hold while Hilary Duff went on a Honeymoon and then the coronavirus hit, causing everything to completely shutdown.  During this time, the team behind the show held virtual zoom meetings to get the show back on track.

Then in the summer, Hilary announced she was pregnant, which was expected to delay the new “Lizzie McGuire” show again.

After last weeks Disney Investor Day, many fans have been asking about the “Lizzie McGuire” series, as it wasn’t mentioned during the 4 hour event.

Actress Hilary Duff took to Instagram today to announce that the show won’t be returning.

Here’s her announcement:

Unfortunately, this “Lizzie McGuire” revival series just kept hitting road blocks and now is no longer going to be heading to our screens.

What do you think about the new “Lizzie McGuire” show being cancelled?
