Disney has announced that the live-action version of its classic animated film “The Little Mermaid” will be coming first to theatres on Memorial Day Weekend 2023 (May 26th, 2023) before heading to Disney+ at a later date.

2The Little Mermaid” returns director Rob Marshall to the Disney fold with a live-action take on the animated classic. In the title role is a multitalented singer and actor Halle Bailey, who you might know from the “Black-ish” spinoff show “Grown-Ish”. Also starring alongside Halle Bailey is a talented cast that includes Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem and featuring Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.

The film will feature the beloved Menken-Ashman songs from the animated original and some all-new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda as well.

Filming has been taking place earlier this year in the UK and Italy.

If you can’t wait until May 2023, the original animated version is available to stream on Disney+ now.

Are you looking forward to this new version of “The Little Mermaid”?
