Disney’s 20th Television has signed a new multi-year overall deal with writer/producer Lana Cho, who will be creating her own content, in addition to supervising other writers comedies and dramas for all of Disney’s platforms.
Karey Burke, President, 20th Television said in a statement:
“We’ve been working with Lana for a long time and have so admired her unique point of view, her background, and her remarkable gift for dialogue and character. We think it’s about time her voice was on the air and we are deeply committed to being her champions.”
The first project she is working on under the new deal is the upcoming Disney+ Original series “American Born Chinese”, which she is a co-executive producer on.
“American Born Chinese“ tells the story of Jin Wang, a teenager who is juggling his high school social life and immigrant home life. After he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, Jin finds himself wittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.
Cho is also developing a new Korean dynasty drama “American Seoul”, which is being created for Hulu/Star. She has previously worked on “ Know What You Did Last Summer”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Timeless”, “Falling Water”, “Minority Report” and “The Get Down”. She is also currently developing a new film for Netflix “Somewhere Only We Know”.
Lana Cho said in a statement:

Having started my writing career in the Disney ABC Writing Program, this feels like a full circle moment!
