Disney has had some major success with turning its theme park attractions into movies, with “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and the upcoming “Jungle Cruise” film.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Disney is now developing another new film based on the infamous attraction, “The Haunted Mansion”, which will be directed by Justin Simien. With “Aladdin” producers, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, producing the film, along with Nick Reynolds. Katie Dippold has written the most recent draft of the script.
According to Deadline, LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish are in talks to star in the film. Stanfield has previously starred in FX’s “Atlanta” and ” Judas and the Black Messiah“. Haddish has recently hosted ABC’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things” and the upcoming film “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”.
The Haunted Mansion attraction can be found at many of the Disney Theme Parks, with the original opening in Disneyland in California in 1969. Guests travel through the foreboding estate in a Doom Buggy, with the disembodied voice of the Ghost Host is your private guide through the cadaverous dwelling—home to grinning ghosts and other spectral surprises. Then they glide past a rattling casket in the conservatory, before heading off to Madame Leota’s spooky séance room. They also float by the Grand Ballroom and its waltzing apparitions before taking a spin through a cemetery where the spirited residents regale you with song.
This isn’t the first time that Disney has made a film based on its “Haunted Mansion” attraction, as it has previously released a film starring Eddie Murphy, and it’s already available on Disney+.
No other details on the film have yet been revealed, such as a plot or if this film will be released in cinemas or as a Disney+ Original.
