Marvel Studios is planning on making the most of Disney+ to provide new ways of telling stories and expanding on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of those new projects includes the “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Holiday Special”, which will feature Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot engaging in some spirited shenanigans in an all-new original special, created for Disney+, during the 2022 holiday season.

Director James Gunn revealed they’ve been working on this new Disney+ special over the past few months while filming also “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 3” and called it his best project yet. Filming on the holiday special was due to begin earlier in the year, but production was slightly delayed due to a rise in Covid cases in Los Angeles.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant to promote the upcoming sci-fi thriller-comedy film “Dual”, Karen Gillan shared some insight for the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special following James Gunn’s comments:

“I mean, it could be! I haven’t seen it yet. I don’t know, but it’s totally possible that it is. I think it’s gonna be extremely funny.”

Very little is known about the upcoming “Guardians Of The Galaxy: Holiday Special”, but with the pressures of being a substantial theatrical release and having more flexibility to tell a different story, in another format, Marvel is likely going to test the waters with this release.
