Following the news earlier this week that casting has now begun on the upcoming Disney+ series based on the popular “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” book franchise.

Discussing Film has revealed that Jonathan E. Steinberg will be writing the Disney+ series along with the book’s author Rick Riordan.

He has previously worked on Starz “Black Sails” and is currently working on FX’s “The Old Man”, which will be coming to Hulu in the United States and Disney+ as a Star Original internationally.

Jonathan E. Steinberg will be producing the Percy Jackson Disney+ series, alongside Dan Shotz, who worked together on “Black Sails” and “Jericho”.

Rick’s wife, Becky Riordan, also confirmed the news on her Twitter account.

The series is currently in early development, and should the first series be successful; the plan is to create 5 seasons, with each season based on one of the books from the series.

No release dates have yet been announced for the Disney+ series.

Are you looking forward to seeing the new “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series?

Given there are two 5-book sequel series and 2 spin-off trilogies(based on Egyptian and Norse myths). The Riordan Myth-verse could be a huge franchise for Disney+ if the first season is successful. And if they are looking for a more magical series I suggest Disney+ look into the Young Wizards book series. It would be right up their alley while still having mature subjects for kids like experiencing the perspective of an Autistic teen and dealing with the loss of a loved one to Cancer.
