20th Television is currently developing a new comedy with Filipino-American stand-up comic Jo Koy, called “Josep”.
The single-cam comedy follows Josep (Jo Koy), a hard-working nurse trying to navigate dating, fatherhood, and the hilarious complications caused by his strong-willed Filipino mother moving in with him.
Jo Koy has appeared in many comedy specials for Netflix and Comedy Central. He won the Stand-Up Comedian of the Year award at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal in 2018. He also has a weekly podcast, called “The Koy Pond With Jo Koy”. Koy has appeared on over 140 episodes of Chelsea Lately as a season regular roundtable guest. Other appearances include: The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, Lights Out with David Spade, @Midnight with Chris Hardwick, Beat Bobby Flay, The Breakfast Club, Celebrity Page TV, World’s Funniest Fails and Sean In The Wild..
The comic took to social media to confirm the news:
This new series will have Steve Joe as the showrunner, he has previously worked on “Young Sheldon”.
The series will be executive produced by Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Michael Golamco (Grimm), Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Melvin Mar (Fresh Off the Boat).
“Josep” is set to air on ABC and Hulu in the United States and since the series is being developed by 20th Television, it’s likely to be released on Disney+ internationally as a Star Original.
