With Disney set to finalise it’s purchase of 21st Century Fox in the next couple of months, Marvel fans are looking forward to the addition of characters from The Fantastic Four and X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  But the big question about these characters is how they will be introduced and the latest rumour from We Got This Covered, is that Marvel has decided to recast the role of Wolverine.

This shouldn’t come as a major surprise, since Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman has been playing the role of Logan since 2000, he is now over 50 years old and Fox killed off the character in “Logan”.

The other part of this rumour is that rather than introducing Wolverine in a movie, he will instead be the focus of his own TV series on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

The X-Men and Wolverine brand would be a major addition to Disney’s new streaming platform.  But will Disney be looking at the huge box office success of previously released X-Men movies as a money maker?  Or would a Wolverine series be a great way of introducing the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

One of the biggest issues with the Fox purchase is that Disney can’t start sharing assets, or any agreement to trade or sell assets, or they would face fines.

Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said to THR about bringing the X-Men and other Marvel characters into the fold.

“I think it only makes sense, I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels. […] Kevin’s got a lot of ideas. I’m not suggesting [making Deadpool an Avenger] is one of them. But who knows?”

Nothing has been confirmed yet for the Wolverine series, but with X-Men TV series including Legion and the Gifted already being successful, Disney+ could be a natural home to expand the X-Men.
