Last year, fans were able to stream some of their favourite Marvel titles in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio at home with IMAX Enhanced on Disney+.  There are currently 14 titles available in the IMAX Enchanted format on Disney+, including “Eternals” and it looks like we will be seeing more titles in this format in the future.

IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio is 1.90:1, which offers up to 26% more picture for select sequences – meaning more of the action is visible on screen, just as the filmmakers intended

This past weekend, the Marvel Studios film, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” hit cinemas and became the fifth biggest global IMAX opening ever for a Marvel film.

A Filmed for IMAX release, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was shot with IMAX cameras and the entire film features IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratio. The film delivered $18 million on 410 IMAX screens in North America, and $15 million across 350 screens in 68 countries and territories internationally. IMAX also made the film available in 3D across select theatres worldwide.

In a statement, Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX said:

“Summer blockbuster season is off to a roaring start with ‘Doctor Strange‘— an excellent sign for the phenomenal slate ahead representing some of the most bankable franchises, filmmakers, and stars in the world. From our Filmed for IMAX camera program to IMAX Enhanced on Disney+, IMAX and Disney have built a strong partnership that will only grow this year with amazing releases like ‘Lightyear’, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ to come.”

This statement by Rich Gelfond, hopefully, indicates that all of these major theatrical releases, will also be available in an IMAX Enhanced format, when they are released on Disney+ after their theatrical run later this year.
