Disney+ continues to roll out internationally and launched in Iceland in September 2020, recently the Icelandic Minister of Education Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir has sent a letter to Disney’s CEO, Bob Chapek, asking for more of its content to be available with dubbing and subtitles in Icelandic.
She said that it’s vital for children to have as much exposure to the language as possible.
“It is unacceptable for a giant such as Disney not to make use of Icelandic dubbing and translations on its streaming service,”
Recently Actor Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson took to social media and pointed out that Disney does have a wide amount of content available within its vaults, with dubbing and subtitles, but hasn’t made them available.
With Disney+ launching in more and more countries, its vital that content is available in as many languages as possible. While Disney+ does offers subtitles and audio dubbing in up to 16 languages, but the availability of these does vary between titles.
Unlike traditional television, streaming platforms aren’t required to have foreign shows and movies with Icelandic subtitles.
Do you think Disney should offer content with more languages within Disney+
