Disney’s 20th Television Studios is developing a new pilot for a drama from Tom McCarthy starring Hilary Swank.  The untitled series is about a star journalist (Swank) who moves to Alaska for a fresh start after a career-killing misstep, and finds redemption personally and professionally joining a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage.

Tom McCarthy is writing and directing the pilot. He will also be an executive producer on the show.  Hilary Swank will also be an executive producer on the series. Bert Salke of Co-lab21, Melissa Wells of Slow Pony, and Kyle Hopkins and Ryan Binkley of the Anchorage Daily News will also executive produce.

ABC has ordered the pilot, and should it become a full series, we should expect the series to be released on ABC and Hulu in the United States and as Star Original on Disney+ internationally, in addition to Disney+ Hotstar and Star+.

Hilary Swank has previously starred in the ABC series “Camp Wilder” and has won two Oscars for her roles in “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby.” Tom McCarthy has worked with Disney on many projects, including Pixar’s “Up”, “Christopher Robin”, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”, and “Million Dollar Arm”.

Are you interested in this pilot becoming a series?
