Last week, the first two episodes of Marvel Studios’ latest series, “Hawkeye”, were released on Disney+. According to some new information from Samba TV, the first episode debuted to 1.5 million US households over the first five days.  With the second episode being slightly lower at 1.3 million US households watching.

SambaTV collects data from 3 million US households as a sample figure and only count a view if they watched 5 minutes of the show.  It also doesn’t count any views on mobile devices.  So this data isn’t completely accurate, but since Disney doesn’t release viewing numbers, we are reliant on companies like SambaTV and Nielsen for viewership data.

“Hawkeye” has had the lowest number of households watching for the debut of any live-action Marvel Disney+ series.  With a 40% drop off from the release of the first episode of Marvel’s “Loki”, which pulled in 2.5 million US households over the first five days in early June.  It’s also down on “Loki’s” finale, which was watched by 1.9 million US households.
While “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” debuted to 1.8 million US households in March across three days and “WandaVision” debuted in January with 1.6 million homes over the 3-day premiere.

Internationally, Samba TV reported that 199,000 UK households, 63,000 German and 10,000 Australian households watched the first episode.  With each country dropping around three thousand viewers going into the second episode over the same five days.

In comparison, Netflix’s latest movie, “Red Notice”, which stars Gal Galot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson, was watched by 4.2 million US households.

Generally, “Hawkeye” has been received well by critics and fans.  Also releasing the series around Thanksgiving might have caused less people to have watched it straight away, especially since this last year’s Thanksgiving was very different during the pandemic and more families were spending time together this year.

It will also no doubt continue to pull in more viewers as more episodes are released.  Unlike many Netflix series, Disney releases its major drama series weekly, building word of mouth, often increasing viewership as the series gets closer to its finale.

The first two episodes are available on Disney+ and a third episode is releasing this coming Wednesday.
