At last years D23 Expo, Walt Disney Animation revealed details on the 59th classic animated movie, “Raya and the Last Dragon” and today a new promotional image has been released, giving us our first look at the lead character, Raya:

The movie stars Cassandra Steele as Raya and Awkwafina as Sisu, the Last Dragon.   The movie takes place in a land called Kumandra, split into five different regions.  It stars a warrior named Raya, who is played by Cassandra Steele, who searches for the last dragon in the world, Sisu, who is played by Awkwafina.

“Raya and the Last Dragon” was originally going to be released in November 2020, but due to the Coronavirus situation, it was pushed back to March 12th 2021.

    Oh wow, I love the CG design of Raya. Even she looks much different than the designs of Go Go Tomago (Big Hero 6) and the other female protagonists from Disney's past films (e.g. Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, Moana, etc.).

    She doesn't even look like a Disney character, she looks like she's from some obscure independent studio nobody cares about. Even the low-tier Disney Princesses convey some brightness and optimism, but all I'm getting from this third-rate action game heroine is "generic stoic tough girl". I bet you twenty dollars, when we get to hear her voice, it's going to be boring and monotone like the Tim Burton Alice. I'll be genuinely surprised if she can even sing.
