Disney has announced that its upcoming animated classic film “Encanto” will be coming to Disney+ on Christmas Eve, after being released exclusively in theatres for the Thanksgiving holiday on November 24th.  With the film getting a 30-day theatrical exclusive window.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to healevery child except one, Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

The film features allnew songs by Emmy, GRAMMY and Tony Award winner LinManuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) and is directed by Byron Howard (“Zootopia,” “Tangled”) and Jared Bush (codirector “Zootopia”), codirected by Charise Castro Smith (writer “The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino.

All of Disney’s other major new releases will have a 45-day theatre exclusive window, before they can be released on Disney+ or other platforms.  As with 20th Century Studio films, things are a little more complicated due to pre-existing deals with HBO.

What do you think of “Encanto” arriving on Disney+ just in time for Christmas?
