ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is one of the most popular series of all time and the 18th season is currently underway, but the show’s lead actress, Ellen Pompeo, has recently spoken out about the possibility of the show ending.

Recipient of the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Television Series and nominated for multiple Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, “Grey’s Anatomy” is considered one of the great television shows of our time. The high-intensity medical drama, now in its 18th season, follows Meredith Grey and the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial who are faced with life-or-death decisions daily. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.

She’s been playing Meredith Grey since 2005 and is also an executive producer on the show.  Due to the success of the show, which is regularly trending on whatever streaming service it’s available on, including Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ internationally.  This long-running series is still a hit in the ratings, and that’s why it’s estimated that she is making $20 million per series.

Recently, she spoke with Insider and said:

“I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end. I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell? And everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'”

After playing the role for over 18 years, it’s not surprising that Ellen is thinking about stopping, as the majority of her co-stars have left over the years to try other things, such as Patrick Dempsey, who stepped away from playing Meredith’s husband, Derek, to appear in movies and series, such as the upcoming Disney+ Original film, “Disenchanted”.

This isn’t the first time this year that Ellen has spoken about the show coming to an end.  As earlier this year, she told ET at the Emmys that:

“I’ve been trying to get away for years. I have been trying. It’s not because I haven’t been trying.  I have strong relationships at the network and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay.  Miraculously, we keep coming up with ways to have a reason to stay and if there’s a reason, that warrants it.”

The latest season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is currently available on Hulu in the US and is currently being released on Disney+ weekly in some countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

Do you think “Grey’s Anatomy” should finish?
