FX is currently developing a new limited series called ‘The Patient’, which is being created by ‘The Americans’ executive producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields.
This limited series is a psychological thriller, where a psychotherapist finds himself held prisoner by a serial killer with an unusual request: curb his homicidal urges. But unwinding the mind of this man while also dealing with the waves of his own repressed troubles creates a journey perhaps as treacherous as his captivity.
Steve Carell will play “Alexander Strauss,” a psychiatrist who has recently lost his wife. Behind his cerebral, sensitive exterior, he has yet to plumb the depths of his own pain and loss.
According to Deadline, Domhnall Gleeson has been cast as the co-lead in FX’s The Patient, opposite “Steve Carell”. Domhnall Gleeson has previously starred as Bill Weasley in the “Harry Potter” franchise and as General Hux in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy.
Linda Emond, Laura Niemi and Andrew Leeds have also joined the limited series, which will consist of ten episodes.
It’s also been revealed that Chris Long will be joining the show as an executive producer. He will also be directing the first two episodes of this half-hour series. Chris has previously worked on FX’s “The Americans”, as did Kevin Bray, who will also direct episodes of this new series. Gwyneth Horder-Payton will also be directing some episodes, having previously directed episodes of FX’s “Pose” and the upcoming Hulu/Star Original series “Pam & Tommy”.
