Disney has announced that the 2016 TV special “Disney’s Broadway Hits At Royal Albert Hall” is coming to Disney+ in a number of countries around the world including the United States, Canada and in the United Kingdom, on Friday 17th September.
John Barrowman hosts this special “Disney’s Broadway Hits from the Royal Albert Hall”, which originally aired on the BBC in the United Kingdom in early 2017. It’s based on a concert of the same name that first opened on 2016 at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK
It features an all-star cast from Broadway including Scarlet Strallen, Ashley Brown, Joshua Strickland, Alton Fitzgerald White, Merle Dandridge, together with the London cast of Aladdin, sing songs from ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Tarzan’, ‘Aida’, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and many more, including the Tony Award-winning ‘Newsies’.
The concert also features a special guest appearance by one of Disney’s masters of music, the musical theatre and film composer – Alan Menken (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Little Shop of Horrors, Tangled, Hercules). It was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Keith Lockhart.
The special had previously been announced to be coming to Disney+ in some countries earlier this year, but was delayed until September. This might have been due to the situation involving John Barrowman and the controversy over his behaviour on the set of Doctor Who between 2005 and 2009, that came up this summer.
