Ever since Disney announced its new streaming service, Disney+, in November last year, they’ve been very clear on the messaging that it will be a family focused product.

This past weekend at the D23 Expo, Entertainment reporter Eric Vespe re-confirmed this stance, when speaking to a Disney representative.

I asked about R-rated content, if any of Fox’s more adult fare will make it on to Disney+ and he said that Disney+ will all be PG-13 or softer. I wonder if this will be their weakness that other streaming services can exploit.

I followed up asking if Fox’s harder edge stuff would end up on Hulu and just got a smile and “that’s a good assumption” in return.

It’s been no secret that Disney+ won’t include any movies over the PG-13 rating and it’s been confirmed that TV shows will go up to a TV14 rating, since there are a wide range of National Geographic shows listed as coming to Disney+ with that rating.  With FX director previously stating that FX shows are more at home on Hulu.

One of the main reasons Disney has been investing so heavily in its other streaming platform, Hulu, is because they want that to offer a place for more adult oriented content.  With the purchase of 20th Century Fox also giving them access to less family friendly franchises such as Deadpool, Family Guy, Die Hard, Aliens, Predator and more, in addition to all of its shows on FX.

Disney also has a number of different brands under its corporate umbrella, such as ABC and Touchstone Pictures, which don’t carry the Disney name.

This is a major reason why Disney is promoting its “Triple” bundle of Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ for a low fee of $12.99.  It keeps people within their own streaming ecosystem and allows Disney to explore making movies and shows that don’t fit under the Disney branding.

I think if all those people don't want to see R rated movies on Disney+ there is a off switch on TV's or they can change the channel and they should get a life and stop trying to tell everyone what they can and can't do
