Earlier this month, Disney released Pixar’s latest animated film, “Luca”, directly onto Disney+. The film has been a huge success already, with the film trending on both social media and within Disney+, along with getting rave reviews from critics and viewers alike.
According to a recent report from The DisInsider, via StreamrNews, Disney has been conducting a survey of Disney+ subscribers about seeing “Luca” on the big screen and about a potential sequel.
With the three questions being asked including:
“Have you heard of the Disney+ original movie Luca?”
“To the best of your knowledge, how likely would each household member below be to watch another movie involving the characters and world of Luca if it became available?”
“If Luca had been available to see in a normal and safe theatrical environment, how interested would you have been to see Luca in the cinema?”
Originally, “Luca” was going to be released in cinemas, but due to the current pandemic, Disney decided to shift the release to Disney+, since “Soul” did so well for the streaming service at Christmas.
However, this did lead to a small backlash against Disney, since some fans and critics believed “Luca” should have been given the same treatment as “Raya and the Last Dragon”, “Cruella” and “Black Widow”, with a simultaneous cinema and Disney+ Premier Access release.
It’s not uncommon for Disney to conduct surveys and this survey doesn’t indicate that there is a “Luca” sequel in development yet, but if the film is considered a success, Pixar has already made sequels to many of its most popular films like “The Incredibles”, “Toy Story” and “Cars”.
The ending of “Luca” leaves it wide open for Pixar to tell more stories within this universe and Disney is collecting data from many different resources, to tell if demand is there for a potential sequel.
Have you watched “Luca” yet on Disney+? And would you like a follow-up film?
