Disney is once again diving into its huge back catalogue for a new Disney+ Original movie, with Deadline reporting that Disney is bringing back “The Rocketeer” for a new live-action film, “The Return Of The Rocketeer”.

Disney originally released “The Rocketeer” in 1991 and is available on Disney+ to stream now. The original film was about a stunt pilot who comes across a prototype jetpack that gives him the ability to fly. However, there are evil forces of the world who also want this jetpack at any cost. Disney also recently rebooted the franchise with an animated series on Disney Junior.

“The Return of the Rocketeer” will have an all-new creative directive, with the new story focusing on a retired Tuskegee airman who takes up the Rocketeer mantle. The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots and airmen who fought in World War II.

The new film will be produced by Yoruba Saxon’s David and Jessica Oyelowo.  This will be the first film to be developed under their new First Look deal.  David Oyelowo may also possibly starring in the film.

Ed Ricourt writing the project, and he has previously worked on Marvel’s “Jessica Jones” and “Now You See Me”.  Also producing the new Disney+ film are Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil from Mortal Media.
